After New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reported more than 300 new deaths in the state, the total number for the U.S. surpassed 3,500. Health officials report more than 177,000 cases of the virus in the U.S., according to Johns Hopkins University.
Monday was the deadliest day in the U.S. so far for the virus, with more than 570 fatalities reported, though it’s possible Tuesday could exceed that number.
Health officials in China report roughly 3,300 deaths. Of its roughly 82,000 cases, health officials report that 76,000 people have recovered.
Spain, Italy and France also report more deaths than China as of Tuesday afternoon.
Health officials in Spain on Tuesday reported its highest single-day death toll, with nearly 950 fatalities. The country has more than 94,400 cases of and nearly 8,200 total deaths.
In Italy, officials report more than 105,000 cases of the virus and more than 12,400 deaths.
France on Tuesday reported nearly 500 new deaths – its highest daily increase so far – taking its total to roughly 3,500 fatalities.
