More than 770,000 British children don’t own a single physical book, says Literacy Trust

Reading for pleasure among children has long been losing ground to the lure of smartphones and video games, but research has found more than three-quarters of a million youngsters do not own even a single book.

The findings, from the National Literacy Trust, will renew fears about the decline of reading in many homes and its devastating effect on education.
