Glow run to benefit Huntley District 158 Education Foundation

A glow-in-the-dark 5K will benefit Huntley District 158’s Education Foundation.

The “Huntley Hootenanny Glow 5K and 1 Miler” will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 8 in downtown Huntley. Education foundation officials hope the event will become an annual capstone fundraiser for student scholarships and classroom grants, according to its website.

Participants are encouraged to use glow-in-the-dark body paints, glow sticks and other colorful accessories for the run.

“We talked about different opportunities to promote the foundation with events in the downtown,” Education Foundation member and Huntley Village Manager Dave Johnson said. “We want to continue to promote what we have been able to create down there and there is a nice opportunity to marry both and look at something more unique than a regular 5K.”

Johnson said the village hopes to promote post-race celebration activities.

“We are working with the school district to have the technology and performing arts department help light the square to make it pop more,” he said. “And after [the race], we are going to turn it into another event on the square to promote activities downtown.”
